The new Hot Docs website is now available…containing all the Docs For Schools info you need to begin the school year.  
There is a new drop down menu for Docs For Schools on the home page…. www.hotdocs.ca.  You will recognize most of the heading names in the drop down, but Fall/Winter Program now includes what used to be called Docs For Schools Monthly, and Gender Matters.  It will make sense once you click.

All Docs For Schools programs are available to any teacher, grade 7 – 12 throughout the province….and all programs are free.  An education package for each film will also be available as a pdf for download.

Docs For Schools Fall/Winter program: 
·         screenings throughout the months of October – April
·         Bloor Hot Docs Cinema – 506 Bloor St W, Toronto
·         Often partner with other organizations, tie-in the screening with special dates (ie Bully Awareness and Prevention week), and when possible offer discussion with special guests following a screening.

For our first screening SPEED SISTERS, will be in conjunction with the World Press Photo exhibition.  Attend the screening at 10am, have lunch in The Annex or the Food Court at Brookfield Place (one floor below the exhibition) and then have your students view the exhibition.  Two significant, in sync events…and both are free.  Online booking for the film will appear on the page Thursday, September 17.

There will also be a special Teacher Evening happening at Brookfield Place on Wednesday, September 30.  Email me if interested to learn more about this event.

Docs For Schools Focus:
·         Theme:  BEARING WITNESS
·         Documentaries available:  5 BROKEN CAMERAS, E-TEAM, CHASING ICE
·         For one week periods a dvd can be sent to your school
·         September 28 – December 14

Docs For Schools Teacher Conference:
·         After a successful year one of the conference we are happy to announce year two
·         February 19, 2016
·         School of Image Arts, Ryerson University, Toronto
·         Free and open to all teachers
·         Details will be posted on the website in late October
·         Our popular instructor, Juan Baquero, will return offering new content viable to both those who attended last year as well as new particpants….so mark the date.

Docs For Schools Festival:
·         two components, In-School and In-Theatre
·         tied to the dates of the Hot Docs Festival
·         this year, April 28 – May 8
·         recognize this is one week later than usual….it has to do with the festival calendars and periodically this happens

In-School:
·         Dvds will be announced in February to make your plans
·         Booking begins late March
·         Screening dates in school, April 28 – May6
·         8 dvds may be requested per school
·         Only one teacher per school may request….librarians can be the best lead teacher in the school

In-Theatre:
·         10 Hot Docs Festival films screened exclusively for students
·         Filmmakers usually attend their screening for Q&A with students, and when available the film subjects too
·         2 screenings daily, 10:00am and 1:00pm
·         Week of May 2 – 6
·         Film announcement and booking info, late March

It is important to note that your feedback, on the positive and negative, is important to us.  Keep the dialogue happening if you have questions or comments about the program.  We are only successful if you like what we do and meet your needs as teachers.
